Garden Girls
Oh! What funI have creating these gals. They are made with leftovers and
scraps of wood from my husband's workshop. I am learning how to use the
screw gun to construct the girls, but John is still in charge of the table
saw.
Once constructed, the Girls are painted with lots of colors and patterns
and symbols. Then they are embellished with all manner of found (and sometimes
purchased) objects that can withstand the variations in weather.
These
items include used CD's empty plastic spools (help! I need more!), old
toothbrushes, large plastic beads, old costume jewelry parts, sock hangers,
film cannisters and pill bottles...just about anything plastic and lightweight
and with a means of hanging.
The Girls are varnished and then installed
easily with rebar for support. The three in my garden have been there for
two and a half years — but I do recommend they take time off in the
winter inside the barn or garage!
One of the Girls was made on commission for a person who plays golf,
so I scavenged the sporting goods store for "practice" balls and also found multi-colored tees for
the hair! They can be customized to a degree or they can be allowed to
"develop" their very own personalities as the muse dictates!
