Journey

textile paints and fiber reactive dyes hand printed and hand painted fabric scraps (printing methods include: stamp, block, screen, monotype) collage construction tulle, metallic organza rayon and metallic threads glass beads machine quilted

This work represents more than ten years of work and memories. It is made of scraps of painted fabrics, which I made and used in many, many of my art quilts over the past decade. As I composed the picture by placing scraps, one at a time, in my method I call collage construction, the memories of past works danced in my head. It was very engaging and pleasurable!

The work began with the right and the left panels. Far into their compositional structuring, I realized that this was about my journey as a person and as an artist. And then I needed to indicate a more structured, distinct pathway in the middle of the composition. I chose to make this road uncluttered and very clearly marked. Like many artists, I have worked for years developing "my style". Perhaps I am close enough to realizing just what that is by now and that is why this road is so clear to me at this time!
