COLOR! CHEER! MOVEMENT! ENERGY! SHARING! CURIOSITY! HONEST EXPRESSION! All this
and love, too, is the spirit of Spindleworks.
An art workshop for mentally disabled adults, Spindleworks
is barely contained within the physical structure of the building:
the energy is contagious, and Spindleworks is becoming more and more
an integrated part of the general community. For me, it has been uplifting,
inspiring and very humbling to work there. The seemingly unstructured
atmosphere lends itself to incredible accomplishment that truly holds
togetherÑthus the metaphor of the building shape to symbolize
Spindleworks (The woven panel which outlines the "house" was my attempt
to weave like Terri Snape, one of the more colorful and energetic Spindleworkers!).
It appears to be about to burst its seams, the shape is not symmetrical,
and there are little bits of colorful energy (woven scraps) jumping
all over inside the building. Outside, it is calm and orderly, what
some may refer to as "normal."
Artwork created at Spindleworks is spontaneous and lively, in no
way staid or regimented. Come and visit us!
