Workshops

Participating in workshops in my home studio is one of those rare opportunities when we can convene for a few days of quilts and companionship in a beautiful setting. We will be sharing ideas, work, laughter, and relaxed lunches. The hope is for everyone to get inspired and energized in her own creative work, and to gain an appreciation for the work of others.

See the current workshop schedule.

During these workshops in Topsham, Maine, you'll be treated to seeing many of my works-in-progress, my extensive book collection, and my colorful, dynamic work space and home. If you are coming to participate in one or more of these workshops "from away" and will need a place to stay, you can stay in one of the many lovely bed & breakfast inns in this area (including Brunswick, Topsham, and even Freeport).

Please consider the on-going nature of these workshops and my own work. Ideas presented can be explored in so many different ways and over the course of many sittings. On a different day, you will have a different outlook and will create a different solution to any of the exercises. This is a very exciting and personal way to learn about yourself and how you work, so goahead and take the same workshop again!

Workshops are two days, usually held on a Saturday and Sunday. Some may require one or two more days, but that can be determined by participants' needs. Hours are from 10 am 'til 4 pm each day.

Descriptions of the workshops give you a good overview of the subject matter. Keep in mind that we can design one specific to your and your group too.

Lectures

Creative Exploration: One Woman's Path

This slide lecture focuses on my own development and growth as a practicing artist. Step right into my studio and my life! Spanning twenty (plus) years, my works have included intensive practice using fiber reactive dyes and textile paints, painting and printing directly on fabric. Over the course of these years, my work has incorporated various techniques, including traditional patchwork, appliqué, wholecloth, and collage. All of this has led to the development of what I call collage construction, which I am currently focusing on in my work.

I will bring slides and/or actual work for show and tell. I do require a fee for these presentations.

Guided Private Study

For those of you interested in more personal and intense study, I do offer private study. We meet on an ongoing basis, to be determined by us. The focus of your study can involve just about anything, including design, collage, sewing techniques, quilting, composition, critiques, influences and inspirations in one’s work, just for example. This is hands-on study. You determine the areas of work we will experience and I will facilitate the work with additional explorations, questions, and suggestions. We will work with a lot of give and take, collaborating our efforts. And will be there plenty of room for fun!

Please contact me so we can discuss possibilities specific to your needs, fees, times, etc.

Fees and Supplies

When you register for one of my workshops, I will send you a supply list. I believe that collecting the “stuff of art making” is part of the creative process. Enjoy it! And try to make note of what you choose for the class and what you decide to leave at home. More IS better, but let’s face it, you can’t bring your whole house with you! Start collecting now and see how your choices compare to items on the supply list.

Please send a registration fee of $50 two weeks prior to your preferred workshop to reserve a place. Send the check to: Natasha Kempers-Cullen, 3 Willis Rd, Topsham, ME 04086 and make the check out to Natasha. Be sure to register in a timely fashion as the classes are limited to only five or six participants.

Upon receiving your check, I will send you the supply list for the class. The balance for the class will be paid during the workshop (or the whole amount may be paid in advance when you register). The fee for two-day workshops is $135. For all workshops please bring a bag lunch and a stool if you have one. (I have tall work tables)
